About

Claire Halliday

My studies started with a Foundation Course at Salisbury Art College, followed by Botanical Illustration at Dillington House in Somerset. Life Drawing at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol, and continuing at the West Cork Arts Centre, Skibbereen. N.C.V.A. Level 5 in Art, Craft & Design, awarded Student of the Year. N.C.V.A. Level 6 in Professional Arts Practice, both at Rossa College, Skibbereen, County Cork.

I moved to West Cork from the south west of England in 1989, and have put down many roots, although continue to be drawn back to Wiltshire.
Familiar trees in the landscape, often where the westerly winds are prevalent, capture my imagination and become a starting point for a painting, forming my landmarks.
Inspired by deciduous trees, particularly in Winter as they show their naked form - the bare truth, I see this as comparable to life drawing with an unclothed model.
Reflecting the natural world, working in a variety of media, as well as landscapes, I produce botanical illustrations, portraits and Handscapes.
